Bitcoin ETFs Bleed $430M as BlackRock IBIT Outflow Streak Tops $1 Billion

US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds recorded $430.2 million in net outflows on Thursday, Nov. 5, according to data from Farside and SoSoValue. The redemptions erased the $74.6 million of inflows logged a day earlier.

The reversal came as a sharp tech selloff swept Wall Street. Bitcoin slipped below $76,000 and was trading near $75,500 early Friday in Asia.

Key takeaways

Fund-by-fund flows

Fidelity was the surprise of the session. Just one day earlier, FBTC led inflows and pushed the group into positive territory.

On Nov. 5, most of the large funds reported redemptions:

IBIT's $105 million outflow was smaller than the $201.2 million it lost on Nov. 4. Still, the market's largest Bitcoin fund has now seen five straight days of outflows since Oct. 30, totaling more than $1 billion, per Cointelegraph.

The recent flow trend

Zooming out, Bitcoin ETFs have been bleeding almost without pause. The Nov. 4 inflow proved to be a brief interruption.

Over the four sessions from Nov. 2 to Nov. 5, the funds lost about $869.8 million. Including Ether ETFs, combined outflows from the two main fund groups reached roughly $530 million on Nov. 5.

Why the flows flipped

The trigger was the equity market. The Nasdaq fell sharply on Nov. 5 as investors dumped AI-linked stocks, and the selling spilled into other risk assets.

Bitcoin briefly topped $80,000 on Nov. 4 after the US midterm results, but gave back all of those gains within a day. The drop also triggered more than $1 billion in crypto liquidations.

What it means for crypto markets

ETF flows are one of the clearest gauges of institutional demand. Simultaneous redemptions from Fidelity and BlackRock suggest institutional buying has not yet returned on a steady basis, despite the short-lived bounce.

Some analysts, including Michaël van de Poppe, argue Bitcoin could find a near-term bottom after sweeping below $75,000. That remains a personal view, not something the data has confirmed.
