NYSE Owner ICE to Bring Hyperliquid Perps to the U.S.; HYPE Jumps ~15%

Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), the parent of the New York Stock Exchange, said it will work with trade[XYZ] to build a regulated U.S. perpetual futures market on Hyperliquid's infrastructure. The plan was announced on Thursday morning U.S. time, Oct 29.

The venue still needs sign-off from the CFTC. Even so, Hyperliquid's HYPE token jumped about 14–15% on the day to around $91, according to The Block.

Key takeaways

Who does what

According to The Block, CoinDesk and crypto.news, each party brings a distinct piece. ICE contributes its experience running regulated markets, clearing and risk management.

trade[XYZ] provides the technology and market design. It is a leading market builder on Hyperliquid through HIP-3, the framework that lets third parties deploy their own perp markets.

ICE chair Jeffrey Sprecher said the company sees perps as additive to its futures business rather than a replacement. He added that ICE wants to reach retail traders through the partners they already use.

The numbers behind it

trade[XYZ] says its Hyperliquid markets have topped $650 billion in volume in just over a year. CoinDesk reports that builder-deployed markets now account for roughly half of Hyperliquid's volume.

Hyperliquid Research Collective data cited by crypto.news put trade[XYZ]'s Q2 2026 volume at about $202.4 billion, up 79.2% quarter on quarter. Equity perps made up about $58.9 billion, and open interest stood near $2.96 billion at the end of June.

The move extends ICE's push into crypto-native markets. In 2025, ICE agreed to invest up to $2 billion in Polymarket, CoinDesk noted.

Why it matters

Perpetual futures dominate offshore crypto trading, but U.S. traders have had limited regulated access. The Block noted that a CFTC staff advisory and no-action relief in May 2026 opened the door to U.S. perps.

A major traditional exchange operator choosing a decentralized exchange's rails is a notable signal. It suggests Hyperliquid's HIP-3 model is being taken seriously by traditional finance.

ICE is not alone, though. Kraken parent Payward has a separate proposal with Bitnomial and NinjaTrader Clearing to bring HIP-3 perps to the U.S.

What it means for crypto markets

HYPE rallied while the broader market was soft. Bitcoin slipped to around $80,000 on the same day, with about $356 million in long positions liquidated, CoinDesk reported, as a cautious Fed and weaker tech stocks weighed on risk.

The size of ICE's investment and any fee arrangement with Hyperliquid remain undisclosed. Those details will shape how directly HYPE benefits.
