Bitcoin trades around $83,170 on Oct 11, down 3.9% on the week while altcoins fell 2–3 times harder. A hawkish Fed, $1.16B liquidated on Oct 8 and $681M of Bitcoin ETF outflows. Dates to watch: CPI on Oct 14, FOMC on Oct 27–28.

On Sunday morning, October 11, 2026, Bitcoin is trading around $83,170, up about 0.5% over 24 hours after a volatile week. BTC fell about 3.9% over the past week, while major altcoins fell 2–3 times harder: ETH down about 8%, SOL nearly 10%, DOGE nearly 11%. Three main factors are behind it: a Fed leaning toward another rate hike, a liquidation flush of more than $1.1 billion, and money leaving ETFs. This article sums up the latest market data and the dates to watch over the next two weeks.
Quick summary
- BTC ~$83,170, having dropped out of its early-October $84,000–87,000 range, with the latest low at $80,400 on Oct 8 (OKX).
- The Oct 8 flush: about $1.16 billion of positions liquidated in 24 hours, roughly 90% of them longs (CoinGlass, via CryptoTicker).
- Bitcoin ETFs saw $681.1 million of net outflows for the week of Oct 5–9, including $731 million over Oct 7–8 alone. Friday, Oct 9 turned slightly positive (+$21.1 million).
- Ether ETFs have seen outflows for 9 trading days in a row, about $697 million in total.
- The Fear & Greed Index sits at 61 (Greed) and BTC funding on OKX is near zero: the market is not panicking, but not euphoric again either.
- Next checkpoints: US CPI on Oct 14 and the FOMC meeting on Oct 27–28.

1. What happened this week?
In early October, Bitcoin moved sideways between $84,000 and $87,000. The long quiet stretch led many traders to open leveraged longs, waiting for a breakout. When price fell out of that range, those longs were liquidated in a cascade, pushing price lower.

- Oct 7: the minutes of the Fed's September meeting showed that most members expect one more rate hike before year-end. Markets had treated the September hike (to 3.75–4.00%) as a one-off, so the news hit risk appetite hard.
- Oct 8: BTC hit a low of $80,400 on OKX. According to CoinGlass data, about $1.16 billion of positions were liquidated in 24 hours, with ETH longs liquidated even more than BTC longs. Futures open interest fell about 5.9%.
- Oct 9–11: price gradually recovered and consolidated around $82,500–83,500. Weekend liquidity is thin and the range is narrow.

2. ETF flows: heavy selling midweek, stabilizing by Friday

- Bitcoin ETFs (based on Farside Investors data): Oct 5 −$89.9M, Oct 6 +$118.9M, Oct 7 −$487.1M (the week's biggest outflow), Oct 8 −$244.1M, Oct 9 +$21.1M. The week came to −$681.1M, ending a three-week inflow streak.
- Ether ETFs have seen outflows for 9 straight trading days since Sept 29, about $697 million in total, and last week was their worst since January. That is the main reason ETH has been weaker than BTC.
- Solana ETFs posted their biggest weekly outflow since launch (−$24.8M), ending a 14-week inflow streak.
The return to inflows for Bitcoin ETFs on Oct 9 is the first sign that fund selling may be slowing, but one session is not enough to call a trend.
3. Why did altcoins fall harder than Bitcoin?
- Thinner order books: the same amount of selling moves altcoin prices more than BTC.
- Higher leverage: retail traders use more leverage on altcoin perpetuals, so liquidation cascades hit harder when prices drop.
- Flight to safety: when risk rises, money moves from altcoins into BTC and stablecoins.
- Notable exceptions: NEAR is one of the few coins on our watchlist still up about 7% over 7 days, while HYPE and ZEC keep large year-to-date gains despite falling this week.
4. Dates to watch over the next two weeks

- US September CPI, Oct 14: hotter-than-expected inflation would strengthen the case for another Fed hike and pressure crypto. A cooler reading could help the market recover. See release times on the Event calendar.
- BTC price levels: the $82,500–83,500 area is where price has consolidated over the weekend. Above, the old $84,000–87,000 range may now act as resistance. Below, $80,400 (the Oct 8 low) is the key level; a daily close below it would be a weak signal.
- ETF flows: an end to the Ether ETF outflow streak would be a good sign for altcoins.
- FOMC meeting, Oct 27–28: the Fed's next rate decision.
5. What to do in this phase?
- Lower leverage before CPI day. Volatility around the release is usually high and price can sweep both ways.
- Do not bottom-fish altcoins just because they fell a lot. Wait for BTC to stabilize and ETF flows to improve first.
- Set stop losses based on price structure and size positions by risk; see Risk management for beginners.
- Watch the whales: see whether large Hyperliquid wallets lean long or short on the Whale Wallets page.
Conclusion
The crypto market is in a "waiting for data" phase: Bitcoin has held around $83,000 after the liquidation flush, but pressure from Fed policy and ETF flows has not fully eased. The Oct 14 CPI release will likely set the next short-term direction. Until then, managing risk matters more than chasing quick profits.
