3 Indicators to Quickly Gauge the Bitcoin Market's “Temperature”

Realized Price, the 200-week moving average and the Fear & Greed Index are three simple tools to see where BTC trades versus its history and crowd sentiment.

You don't need to be an on-chain expert to use the three indicators below for a big-picture view of the Bitcoin market. Illustrative figures are as of early October 2026.
1. Realized Price
- The average price at which each circulating BTC last moved on the blockchain. Roughly speaking, it is the average cost basis of the whole market.
- Currently around 54,000 USD. When the market price is well above Realized Price, most holders are in profit. When price falls to or below this level, the market is usually in a panic zone.
2. 200-week moving average (200W MA)
- The average closing price of the last 200 weeks, or about 4 years, often seen as BTC's long-term trend line.
- Currently around 66,000 USD. Historically, major BTC bottoms have tended to form near or below this line.
3. Fear & Greed Index
- A 0–100 score built from price volatility, trading volume, social media and several other factors. Below 25 is extreme fear, above 75 is extreme greed.
- In early October 2026, the index stood at 69: positive sentiment, but not overheated.
Things to keep in mind
- No indicator predicts future prices accurately. Use them to understand context, combine them with risk management and do your own research before making decisions.
